KOR NATURAL

KOR NATURAL is a natural dye expertise center in Hera, started by the RELOKA Foundation in 2023. It is the only center in Timor-Leste that 100% focusses on natural dyes. With thisp rogram we aim to gather Timorese and international knowl- dge on natural dyes and build the capacity of local artisans. We preserve natural dye plants in our botanical garden and develop a market value chain for natural dye resources.

Colorlab; for research and preservation

Our research focusses on building our exper-tise and on preserving the existing knowledge on natural dyes of Timor-Leste. We are constantly testing colors and recipes in our workshop in Hera, we learn from international dyers, and we document the traditional natu- ral dye methods.

Training center; Sharing of expertise

We provide free trainings to Timorese weaver
groups and student groups, organize a yearly
seminar with the National University of Timor-Leste, we invite international master dyers and provide workshops to international tourists.

Botanical Garden; for education and relaxation

In Hera we are developing a botanical garden for the preservation of natural dye trees and plants. The garden will become a collection of the indigenous plants of Timor-Leste that produce natural colors. The garden serves for research, education and preservation of species.

Market ; value chain development

We develop a complete market chain for natural dyes, from a supply chain of natural dye resources by farming indigo, mordant and other plants to the development of new products, providing a new source of income
for at least three communities.

Guided center tour

We provide (one-hour) guided tours at our center in Hera. You learn about natural dye trees and plants during our garden walk-through and we share about the natural dye process in Timor-Leste. A tour, including coffee/tea and snack is $10 per person. Call us to make an appointment.

Half-day natural dye workshop

We provide half-day (9am till 2pm) natural dye workshops. In these workshops, including drinks snacks and lunch, you learn about natural dye trees during our garden walk-through, the natural dye process and you get make your own natural dye tests with two colors. A workshop is $45 per person. We organize monthly workshops (follow our Facebook) or we can provide customized workshops to groups of minimum 4 persons.
